Ajax coach Míchel Sánchez: 'It is 100 per cent certain that he is coming'

Ajax will still bring in a new left winger before the summer transfer window shuts. Head coach Míchel Sánchez made that clear on Sunday ahead of the away game against Telstar, insisting the Amsterdam club will definitely do business in that position.

Speaking to the cameras of ESPN, Míchel confirmed Ajax are not done in the transfer market yet. The priority is a left winger who can add more depth with his pace and individual quality.

The need arose after Mika Godts' move to Paris Saint-Germain. Abdellah Ouazane and Oscar Gloukh have both been used on the left flank since then, but Ajax are clearly looking for a different type of attacker.

"It is one hundred per cent certain that a winger will arrive who gives us depth and is strong in one-on-one duels. A vertical player like Mika is as well," Míchel told ESPN reporter Milan van Dongen.

Míchel could not yet say who the new wide player will be. "Do I already know more? No, but the left-wing position is a priority for Jordi. And for me too."

Over recent weeks, Míchel has discussed the arrival of a new wide attacker several times with technical director Jordi Cruyff. "We have talked about it often," said the coach, who clearly feels his current squad are still missing something out wide.

"At this moment we do not have a pure winger. We really do need that type of player," Míchel continued.

In recent days, Ajax have already been linked with several left wingers. One of the names mentioned is Brian Rodríguez of América, for whom the Amsterdam club, according to De Telegraaf, have already made a bid of around twelve million euros.
