AD: Transfer fee Ajax pay for Viktor Tsygankov is higher than previously reported
Ajax will pay Girona slightly more for Viktor Tsygankov than first reported. Earlier on Monday, De Telegraaf put the fee at 'slightly less than five million euros', but according to Algemeen Dagblad it is 'a maximum of six million euros'.
On Monday morning, Spanish outlet Cadena SER reported that Ajax are set to sign the Ukrainian left winger in the short term. Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf confirmed that a little later.
Initial reports mentioned a transfer fee of four million euros plus one million in bonuses. AD now say the amount is slightly higher: a maximum of six million euros. Girona must pass half of that on to Dinamo Kyiv, where Tsygankov played until the start of 2023.
Tsygankov is expected to complete his move in the coming days. A contract until mid-2030 is waiting for him at the Johan Cruyff ArenA.
For Girona, selling Tsygankov matters. The relegated club want to get the right winger off the wage bill.
Last week, the player also clashed with his employer. He refused to play for Girona and shared private chats on Instagram to force through a transfer, after which the Spanish club started legal proceedings.
With only a one-year contract left, and with the conflict escalating, Girona are keen to get rid of him. That has allowed Ajax to move for him for a relatively low fee. According to Transfermarkt, he is worth fifteen million euros.
Tsygankov also worked with Ajax manager Míchel Sánchez at Girona. He made 119 appearances for the club, scoring 20 goals and providing 23 assists.
