A spine-chilling scene: horrific injury to Morocco star and transfer to hospital
A terrifying scene
Morocco international Ayoub El Kaabi suffered a serious and horrific injury during Olympiakos' clash with Volos on Saturday evening, in the third round of the Greek league. His left leg twisted violently after a heavy collision with the opposing goalkeeper.
The injury struck just before half-time. El Kaabi surged towards the ball and got a touch before Volos goalkeeper Marios Siabanis could reach it, only for the keeper to fall with all his weight onto the Moroccan striker's leg. The limb twisted under the force of the collision, leaving players and fans in shock.
Writhing on the ground in pain, El Kaabi waited as the medical staff rushed to treat him. The footage that circulated revealed the extent of the injury and the severity of the twist his left leg endured. Carried off on a stretcher to applause from the fans, the Moroccan striker made way for Armando Gonzalez.
The fallout did not end there. The referee pointed to the spot for the challenge, and Jota Silva stepped up to convert. He celebrated with raw emotion and dedicated the goal to his Moroccan teammate, a scene that laid bare the distress running through the team.
El Kaabi went straight to hospital after leaving the pitch, where he underwent the necessary medical examinations to determine the nature of the injury and assess its severity.
Olympiakos and Moroccan fans now await the official medical diagnosis. It will reveal the details of El Kaabi's injury and his likely spell on the sidelines, especially with those first sickening images raising major fears of a severe fracture in his leg.
