"100 per cent heart?" TV pundit Stefan Effenberg questions the attitude of the BVB star
Serhou Guirassy's performance in the Super Cup against Bayern Munich did not please the 58-year-old at all.
"With Guirassy, I always think: 'Is he always fully committed with his heart?' I couldn't see that in the first half yesterday," Effenberg said on Doppelpass on Sport1.
Guirassy turned in a very poor display in Borussia Dortmund's 2-1 (2-0) defeat to the champions and cup winners from Munich. The 30-year-old Guinean was almost completely taken out of the game and failed to produce any noteworthy attacking action.
That was true of almost the entire BVB side, who saw little of the ball in the first half and spent most of their time dealing with the clear superiority of the visitors.
As the game wore on, Dortmund improved. BVB worked their way into the match more effectively, while Bayern's superiority and probably their energy levels faded in equal measure.
Effenberg backs substitute Fabio Silva
Fabio Silva came on for Guirassy in the 63rd minute, scored the goal that cut the deficit and also produced a number of bright moments. Effenberg singled out the Portuguese forward's display.
Silva "did that well last year too", said the former Bayern professional. "Whenever he was needed, he was dangerous and had a good rate."
After arriving in Dortmund a year ago from Wolverhampton for €22 million, Silva has operated as back-up to goalscorer Guirassy and is not happy with that role.
Silva's future unclear - move certainly possible
Right now, various rumours are swirling around the 24-year-old, who is under contract at BVB until summer 2030.
Several Spanish clubs are said to be interested in Silva, including Real Betis, cup winners Real Sociedad and promoted side Deportivo La Coruna. In Turkey, Mo Salah's new club Trabzonspor are also considered interested.
Following the Super Cup, Silva gave an evasive answer about his future and repeated that he wants more playing time at BVB. It is entirely possible that something will still happen before deadline day on 1 September.
