Officially: Monaco terminates Pogba's contract
Unknown fate for the French star
Monaco have parted ways with Paul Pogba. The French club confirmed on Wednesday that they had terminated the midfielder's contract by mutual consent ahead of the new season, despite the deal running until the summer of 2027.
In an official statement on its website, Monaco explained that club and player had reached a joint decision to end the contract. Both parties concluded that the objectives set when Pogba joined during last season's pre-season had been only partially achieved.
The club thanked the 2018 World Cup winner, praising his professionalism and commitment throughout his time with the team. Pogba had shown an outstanding mentality and great determination, they said, returning to action at the highest level after a long absence and playing an important role inside the dressing room by passing on his experience to the younger players.
Pogba delivered a farewell message of his own to the management, his team-mates and the fans. "I would like to thank the club president and the management, my team-mates, and all members of the technical and administrative staff, and every fan who believed in me. Representing this club and the Principality of Monaco was a wonderful experience."
He added: "Monaco is a great club, and although I did not play the number of matches I had hoped for, I will always be grateful for the chance to wear its shirt."
Monaco's chief executive Thiago Scuro described signing Pogba as an ambitious challenge. The ending was not as the club had hoped, he admitted, but that did not diminish the value of the player's return to the pitch, nor his positive impact within the team, especially in supporting the young players with his experience. He wished Pogba success in his coming career.
