Juventus, Thuram goes to Lyon for treatment on his knee: how he is and when he will return to the pitch
The French midfielder will complete his recovery from knee surgery away from Turin.
Juventus have barely had Khephren Thuram available at all at the start of the season. The French midfielder went into the summer with a serious knee problem and underwent surgery on 3 September 2026.
His recovery is moving quickly, but according to Sky Sport the next stage will not happen at Continassa. Instead, it will take place in Lyon, where he had the operation. His recovery time and return to action will depend precisely on this forced "trip".
What was wrong with him?
Thuram had to undergo surgery for patellofemoral syndrome, a chondropathy in his right knee, which had been stopping him from training without pain or his knee swelling up. Dr Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet carried out the operation at the Hôpital Privé Jean Mermoz in Lyon, France, and it went as well as possible.
Two weeks in Lyon
Thuram has come through the operation well and will now move into the first phase of his rehabilitation programme which, according to Sky Sport, will last two weeks and take place in Lyon under the supervision of Dr Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet
When can he return
When these two weeks are up, Thuram will return to Turin and start a more substantial programme to get him back to competitive action and rebuild his fitness. It will take time, so the Frenchman will certainly not return to the pitch before January 2027. The situation is still evolving and much will depend on how he responds to treatment. Juventus will be as cautious as possible, and his return to the pitch could even be pushed back a little further into the first months of 2027.
