“I spoke with PSG” – Serie A attacker would have given new look Paris team a very different shape

PSG had a major squad refresh in the summer, and it sounds like they almost signed a very different profile of attacker.

PSG ended up having quite a busy summer, selling off a number of squad players and bringing in some top talents to replace them.

One player we hadn’t heard about – but who was apparently considered by the Parisians – was Atalanta’s Charles De Ketelaere. The elegant, upright attacker explained in an interview with La Derniere Heure that he had spoken to the French champions in the summer.

“There were clubs interested, but when you see the prices being paid in the current market, it isn’t always easy to leave. I know that Atalanta were asking for a lot, I think it was around €50m.”

“You have to find a team that will pay it. In the Premier League, there are several teams that can do it, but it didn’t happen. I spoke with PSG but they ultimately chose Ferran Torres. I am happy at Atalanta. I know how important it is to be a starter following my adventure at AC Milan.”

Torres is a far better profile for what PSG wanted than De Ketalaere, frankly. We can’t imagine there was ever much of a contest between the two, especially given how well Luis Enrique knows and likes the Spaniard.
