PSG sold players this summer, but already look to have moved cleverly to replace them and improve their squad.

Luis Enrique’s PSG team were down 2-0 at half time against Rennes last night, and the manager decided to take off star attacker Ousmane Dembele. He replaced him with World Cup winner Ferran Torres, who scored twice on his Ligue 1 debut to level the game.

Most teams don’t have the luxury of being able to take off a top player like Dembele and replace him with a player as good as Torres, but PSG do, thanks to years of clever operation in the transfer market.

PSG make use of exceptional squad to turn game around

“Absolutely,” their manager replied when asked if places in his team had become even more competitive this year.

“We’re constantly looking to find the best players for every match. It’s harder than last year, and that’s our ambition. I think we had a very good transfer window, and we’re still open to different possibilities. Everyone knows how difficult it is for a team to always win. And it’s clear we still need to improve.”

While losing players who are settled and comfortable in the team is a blow, as long as you can improve them with even better players, you’ll be better off in the long run. And right now, it looks like that’s just what PSG have done.

Luis Enrique took off Ousmane Dembele for Ferran Torres midway through last night’s game, and was rewarded with two goals. He discussed the decision post game.

PSG drew 2-2 with Rennes last night in an exciting conclusion to the Ligue 1 weekend.
