Urgent: Baldé informs Barcelona of his decision, throwing the ball into the club's court
An unexpected step
Alejandro Balde has settled his future at Barcelona. The full-back's decision comes amid controversy over a possible departure during the current summer transfer window.
Fabrizio Romano revealed that Balde has told Barcelona he wants to stay and fight for his place. The Italian journalist confirmed the player's intention to remain at the Camp Nou is clear, contrary to recent claims that he had begun to accept the idea of leaving.
Writing on X, Romano added that the decision now rests with Barcelona after the club explored a sale. He noted that nothing will change before the market closes unless a huge offer arrives from one of the major clubs.
Things have moved quickly in recent days. Balde's agent Jorge Mendes has entered the negotiations, with Premier League clubs circling, chief among them Manchester United.
United contacted Barcelona's representatives to enquire about the terms of any deal. The English club are searching for competition for Luke Shaw at left-back.
Hansi Flick had already spoken about Balde's situation. The Barcelona coach confirmed the player possesses great quality but wants to be sure he is convinced of his ability to compete for his place, stressing his need for players who are 100% committed.
Flick also revealed recently that he had spoken with the player and asked him to think about his situation.
Balde's contract runs until 30 June 2028, with a huge release clause valued at one billion euros. Barcelona renewed his deal in September 2023.
