Sport - Barcelona want Dimarco: a swap deal proposed for the summer, eyes on a new contract

The Catalan club continue to look towards Inter.

First came the rumours around Alessandro Bastoni, then those involving Lautaro Martinez. Now Barcelona are tracking a new name in Inter’s ranks, a player they also moved for during last summer’s transfer window: Federico Dimarco.

According to Sport, sporting director Deco is keeping tabs on the Italian full-back’s unresolved contract situation and continues to follow him with next season in mind.

The summer proposal

Last summer, Barcelona looked into an overhaul on the left and, with Alejandro Balde long among the players they are willing to let go, asked Inter about the Italian full-back.

According to Sport, the idea was a swap involving the two left-backs, with a small additional payment in Inter's favour, but it never went any further because Inter had no interest in doing a deal on those terms.

Under observation

Deco has visited Italy several times, including last season when he spoke with Bastoni's agents. He will keep monitoring the situation, especially Dimarco's contract talks, with the coming transfer windows in mind. If he does not reach an agreement with Inter, he will try to revive their move for him.

Renewal in the balance

Inter have already confirmed that, through the automatic extension clause in the agreements signed in 2023, Dimarco will no longer be under contract until 30 June 2027, but until 30 June 2028.

His new agent Canales is also in talks with new sporting director Dario Baccin over a fresh deal, with the aim of securing a much longer contract on significantly improved terms compared with his current salary.

Inter want to meet, as far as possible, the demands of last season's MVP, but with the constraints imposed by Oaktree not everything will make it into the new agreements. Should Dimarco ultimately say no? Barcelona will be ready.
