Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Goncalo Inacio could still leave Sporting CP this summer, amid strong links with AC Milan.

Even after Milan secured the signing of Mario Gila from Lazio for €30m including bonuses, there was talk that the management wanted another central defender, ideally one who could play down the middle and/or on the left.

Given head coach Ruben Amorim’s strong ties to Sporting CP – the club where he won five major trophies as a head coach – there have been numerous sources suggesting that Inacio could become a target.

These stories rumbled on and reignited a few days ago when the centre-back was left out of Sporting’s game over the weekend for what many believed to be transfer-related reasons. Sources in Portugal even suggested that Milan could be behind the move, though Barcelona were mentioned.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has given the following update: “Talks for Gonçalo Inácio continue behind the scenes with an exit still considered possible. Inácio’s agent Miguel Pinho, working on possible proposals on Sporting table to arrive this week. There’s nothing with Barcelona.”

For the Rossoneri the priority will remain trying to get some sales done to trim the squad, but it seems the door is open if Gerry Cardinale and co. do decide to make a late attempt for the Portugal international.
