Real Madrid and Liverpool have managed to become rivals over the last few years.

Whether they're facing off with one another in the Champions League or Los Blancos are stealing the Reds' players, there's always seemed to be a little bit of bad blood between the two clubs.

Each of them are some of the biggest football clubs in the world with every single football fan knowing who they are.

Thanks to this stature in the game, both teams can more or less entice anyone they want to their club and, since their fanbase is so large, they generate more than enough money to get these deals over the line.

However, when they both want the same player, such as Yan Diomande this summer, prices get driven up massively and, more often than not, one of the clubs end up spending way over the odds to make a deal work.

This isn't always the case but, after the latest news to emerge from the Bernabeu, it feels like the La Liga outfit could end up embarrassing Liverpool once again.

Real Madrid have entered the race for Liverpool target Alex Scott

One of the main positions that Liverpool need to upgrade among their ranks over the next year or so is their midfield.

Ever since Fabinho exited L4, fans have demanded that Fenway Sports Group bring in another midfielder to help even the load.

And, while this has kind of been done by introducing Trey Nyoni and James McConnell to their first-team squad, it's clear that Liverpool need an actual midfielder to be brought in.

With this in mind, several players have been linked with a switch but now, according to TEAMtalk, Real Madrid have thrown their hat into the ring which could easily result in Liverpool being embarrassed again.

"Real Madrid are considering becoming involved in the race for Bournemouth star Alex Scott after watching the England international closely in recent weeks, TEAMtalk can reveal," they wrote.

"However, clubs and scouts were permitted to watch the match — and we understand Real Madrid were among those in attendance.

"Sources have confirmed to TEAMtalk that one of the main reasons for Madrid’s visit was Scott, with the Spanish giants having already watched the Bournemouth star on multiple occasions.

"We understand Madrid have seen Scott at least three times, including Bournemouth’s Europa League victory over Real Sociedad in Spain last month.

"Scott is a long-term target for Chelsea, as we have previously revealed, and the Blues continue to keep close tabs on his progress. Liverpool, meanwhile, also hold significant interest in the talented midfielder."

Liverpool cannot let Real Madrid beat them to another signing

As mentioned, Liverpool's rivalry with Real Madrid goes far beyond just the games that they play.

A lot of the time, the La Liga outfit have beaten Liverpool to some of their most-wanted signings while they've even prised away some of their star players for nothing.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate were both regular starters for Liverpool and, even though the Reds wanted to offer them new deals to stay on, each of them chose to join Real Madrid.

So, if Jose Mourinho does actually want his club to sign Scott, the Reds can't let themselves get beaten to his transfer.

That is, especially since he'd be homegrown, which, at the moment, is essential for Liverpool.

Obviously, these are just rumours at the moment but, with how many players are being linked with an Anfield switch, it wouldn't be a surprise to see a decent amount of movement in the transfer window.
