Real Madrid's season hasn't gotten off to the start that everyone was expecting after the summer the club had. They brought in Jose Mourinho as the new manager, cleared out some of the dead weight, and brought in a number of marquee signings as they look to get back to the top of the mountain after disastrous back-to-back trophyless seasons.

However, things haven't gone to plan, with Los Blancos currently sitting third in La Liga following a number of disappointing performances from the team as a whole as well as from individual players. The poor individual performances have been the most eye-catching as it hasn't been just one or two players but a majority of the team. It would take forever to go through every poor-performing player, so let's take a look at just the top five worst-performing players for Real Madrid so far this season.

Who has been the worst of the worst for Real Madrid so far this season?

1. Vinicius Junior

We'll get the most obvious one out of the way first: Vinicius Junior has far and away been the worst player for Real Madrid so far this season. He is miles off the Vinicius we have seen in past seasons, and has only been able to grab one goal through the first eight games of the season, and his form in front of goal has been quite shocking, with the Brazilian failing to put away a number of easy one on-one-chances, that for him were sure-fire goals just a couple of seasons ago.

Vinicius looks out of shape, slow, scared to run at defenders, and overall just not interested in playing football, and that has been a major detriment to the team as a whole, with the Brazilian being more of a liability than anything so far this season.

2. Fede Valverde

The Uruguayan has been tasked with wearing the captain's armband this season and has so far failed to deliver any performance that shows he is worthy of wearing it. Valverde is lacking that fiery passion and aggressiveness he had in past seasons and has yet to make an impact in the midfield.

He is playing in one of the most important positions on the pitch for Real Madrid, and has been tasked with bringing what Toni Kroos and Luka Modric used to bring to the team, but he looks like we would rather do anything than have the ball passed to him.

Much like Vinicius, Valverde hasn't looked very interested in playing so far this season, despite the club putting so much faith and responsibility on him.

He has yet to deliver a performance of any note, and with all the midfield talent at his disposal, Jose Mourinho would be better suited to playing someone else who actually wants to play and perform for the team.

3. Denzel Dumfries

While it may sound harsh to Dumfries on this list having just arrived this summer, so far his arrival hasn't brought the results it was expected to.

Despite already having Trent Alexander-Arnold, who many view as the right-back of the future for Real Madrid, the club went out and brought in Dumfries this summer at the request of Jose Mourinho, as he believed he would fit his system better; however, so far, he has yet to deliver.

The Dutchman has gotten caught out defensively on a number of occasions, and despite being a more defensive-minded fullback, the backline is still looking fragile and conceding goals for fun, with Dumfries failing to make any difference in defense.

4. Alvaro Carreras

While this may be a bit of an oddball, Carreras, despite not being a regular starter, has still been one of the worst players for Real Madrid this season. He's featured for Real Madrid five times so far this season, and has had a poor performance in almost every single appearance.

He's been all over the place defensively, and his decision-making has been very poor and has looked like a shell of the player Real Madrid thought they were bringing in from his time at Benfica.

He's currently serving as Marc Cucurella's backup but with his form being what it is, it wouldn't be surprising if he falls to being the third choice left-back once Ferland Mendy is back to fitness.

5. Yan Diomande

While it may sound harsh to put Diomande on this list, given he is still only 19-years-old and has his whole career ahead of him, so far through the early parts of the season, he has failed to deliver what you expect from a €125 million signing.

He's grabbed just one assist through eight games, and after spending so much money, Real Madrid would no doubt be expecting more from the Ivorian. It's still early days, so obviously he has plenty of time to improve this season, but so far he has been one of the more disappointing attackers at Real Madrid this season.
