Ranking the 5 best Real Madrid players of the season so far
Real Madrid haven't gotten off to the dominant start to the season everyone was expecting from them. Real currently sit third in La Liga and have failed to convince in almost all of their matches, both as a team as a whole as well as individually. Most of the players have looked far off the pace through the early parts of the season, which could be a worrying sign of things to come as the season goes on.
However, through all the disappointment so far this season, there has been a few players who have managed to standout as the few good performers through the early days of the season. Let's take a look at who have been the five best players for Real Madrid so far this season.
Who has actually been good for Real Madrid this season?
1. Kylian Mbappe
We'll get the obvious one out of the way first, Kylian Mbappe has far and away been Real Madrid's best player so far this season. The Frenchman has grabbed eight goals and two assists through the first eight games of the season and has been Real Madrid's only true goal threat and has played a decisive part in almost every game this season.
With the other attackers like Vinicius Junior and Yan Diomande struggling to make any sort of impact, Los Blancos have had to rely heavily on Mbappe in the early days of the season and thankfully for them he has been delivering. Unfortunately for Real Madrid, the Frenchman picked up an injury with France and could be out for a couple of weeks, and his absence will no doubt be a major blow to a team that is already struggling even when he performs.
2. Arda Guler
Next, we have Arda Guler. After a tough first two seasons at Real Madrid, Guler finally started to find his feet last season and has kept up his strong form to start his fourth season at the club. The Turkish international has grabbed one goal and three assists through seven games, and has been the main source of creativity, in a team that still struggles to create chances.
Guler's performances have made him almost undroppable for Jose Mourinho, which has come at the expense of players like Yan Diomande and Brahim Diaz; however, it's worth it as Guler is one of the few players who when he plays, you can see he is trying to win.
3. Thibaut Courtois
Next we come to Thibaut Courtois and that shouldn't come as a surprise given the Belgian has always been one of the few consistent players in the team year in and year out. Real Madrid have conceded eight goals through the first eight games of the season, and that's not the fault of Courtois, whose heroic saves have saved the team from dropping even more points than they've already dropped.
Courtois has once again been showing why to many he is still considered the best goalkeeper in the world, and possibly even the best goalkeeper in Real Madrid's history. Courtois has already come to the teams rescue on a number of occasions this season, showing that it will be almost impossible to replace him once his time at the club sadly comes to an end.
4. Jude Bellingham
After a bit of a down season last year, Jude Bellingham has found his form again so far through the early days of the 26/27 season. He's grabbed three goals and three assists through the first eight games, and much like Guler, is one of the few players on the pitch that you can clearly see is hungry to win.
The Englishman has been contributing on both sides of the ball, which has been important due to the lack of defending from the other attackers, and has been a difference maker in almost every game so far this season.
Real Madrid have La Liga and Champions League glory on their minds again this season and for that to happen they need the best of Jude Bellingham, like we saw in the 23/24 season, and thankfully for Jose Mourinho, that's the version that has shown up so far this season.
5. Dean Huijsen
Finally, we come to Dean Huijsen. The defender has a somewhat disappointing debut season last season after his €60 million arrival from Bournemouth, however he has looked like a completely different player so far this season under Jose Mourinho.
He's been more aggressive, and, outside of his red card against Atletico Madrid, has been mostly mistake-free through the first eight games of the season. He was given the iconic number 4 shirt heading into this season and has shown so far that he was a worthy choice to wear such a heavy number.
