Provisional date: a single step separates Militao from a Real Madrid return

Good news for the Brazilian defender

Real Madrid are counting down the days to Éder Militão's return. The Brazilian has been sidelined for months by an injury that required major surgery to put right.

Good news arrived for the Merengues centre-back this week when Finnish doctor Lasse Lempainen, the man who operated on him, paid a visit to Valdebebas.

Marca newspaper relayed the doctor's comments from his social media accounts, where he said: "A wonderful day in Madrid with Éder Militão and Real Madrid's medical and technical staff. Éder continues to progress according to plan after undergoing surgery to treat his serious (knee) tendon injury."

He added: "We were pleased to contribute our expertise and experience to his return to the pitch, with the aim of helping him return safely and deliver the best possible performance. Many thanks to Éder and all those working at Real Madrid for the excellent cooperation and the successful day."

Lempainen confirmed: "The return to the pitch is a major achievement, and the goal is to restore the highest level of performance."

Militão went under the knife to treat a rupture of the knee tendons on 28 April 2026. Doctors set the recovery period at five months, which means he is now into the final stages.

Cameras caught the centre-back on the pitch a few days ago during an intensive physical training session, a clear sign that he is recovering well.

Marca added that "after this examination carried out by the surgeon... which produced a very positive result", only one step remains: "for him to begin working with the team and to fully integrate into it".

His return, the paper confirmed, "will depend on how far he progresses in training with his team-mates and the time he needs to reach peak physical fitness to join the team, but it is expected to be next October".
