Hansi Flick's Barcelona can make history by clinching LaLiga title in El Clasico against Real Madrid.

Barcelona know that a win or a draw against Real Madrid on Sunday evening will be enough to see LaLiga title remain in their possession.

Hansi Flick's side have peaked at the ideal time and he could become the first coach since former Barca chief Ernesto Valverde in 2019 to win successive Spanish top-flight titles.

As for Real, the domestic crown is still within their reach, mathematically anyway, but it is a matter of when, not if, the Catalans start the celebrations.

Team news

Flick will be without the services of superstar forward Lamine Yamal, who will miss the rest of the campaign.

Andreas Christensen is also out of thislash, although he has started training again after a spell out with a knee injury.

Los Blancos boss Alvaro Arbeloa has a more pressing injury crisis to deal with. Rodrygo, Arda Guler, Dani Carvajal, Ferland Mendy, Dani Ceballos and Eder Militao are out of this crunch clash.

Federico Valverde suffered a head injury following a training ground altercation with Aurelien Tchouameni in midweek. The Uruguayan is therefore ruled out, but the Frenchman could start after not being suspended by Madrid.

The stats

Barcelona have enjoyed the better head-to-head in recent matches between the clubs. The Catalans have emerged victorious in five of the previous six El Clasico fixtures in all competitions.

In four of those wins, both teams found the back of the net and this seems to be a recurring theme when these two rivals meet.

Going back to the start of 2020, 15 of the 20 competitive meetings has featured both teams scoring.

Barca enter this game having won eight of their nine previous matches, with the only blip coming against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Real, however, have won just three of their last eight games in all competitions heading into the final El Clasico of the campaign.

Only once before has the outcome of an El Clasico fixture decided the outcome of the title race.

That came way back in 1932, with Madrid benefitting from a 2-2 draw to win their very first Spanish league crown.

Prediction

Barcelona start this match as clear favourites and it is easy to see why given their recent run of form.

The chance to win the tile at the expense of their biggest rivals is surely the only motivation Flick and his players need on Sunday evening.

Madrid, despite being on a poor run of form at the moment, will still cause problems for the home backline, but expect the home side to secure a 29th Spanish title.
