Martin Demichelis has made a big impact since taking charge at LaLiga strugglers Mallorca.
  • Barcelona hold a nine-point lead ahead of game at Getafe

  • Mallorca have collected 10 points from five games under Martin Demichelis

  • Real Oviedo seven points from safety despite three wins in four

Barcelona's hard-fought 1-0 win at home to Celta Vigo on Thursday stretched their lead over Real Madrid at LaLiga summit to nine points and they will be aiming to strengthen their grip on the title on Saturday's trip to Europe-chasing Getafe.

Real can put the pressure on with victory at Real Betis on Friday, while Atletico Madrid will be keen to stop a run of four straight defeats at home to Athletic Bilbao.

The scrap for survival is getting congested and there are two crunch clashes at the bottom of the table as Alaves host Mallorca and basement boys Real Oviedo entertain Elche.

Real Betis vs Real Madrid (Friday, 8pm)

The title is slipping away from Real and they have lost two of their last three away league games, at Osasuna and Mallorca.

Real Betis are still in the hunt for European qualification and, having played out four straight draws at home, may be able to claim a point.

Score prediction: Real Betis 1-1 Real Madrid

Alaves vs Mallorca (Saturday, 1pm)

The appointment of Martin Demichelis has seen Mallorca move away from the relegation zone with them collecting 10 points from their last five league games, meanwhile, Alaves are without a home league win in five and appear in grave relegation danger.

Score prediction: Alaves 1-2 Mallorca

Getafe vs Barcelona (Saturday, 3.15pm)

European hopefuls Getafe have hit a great run of form, winning five of their last seven matches, but Barcelona have won eight LaLiga games in a row to take control of the title race.

Lamine Yamal's injury is a blow and four of Barca's last five victories have been by a single goal.

Score prediction: Getafe 1-2 Barcelona

Valencia vs Girona (Saturday, 5.30pm)

There are just two points separating this pair and a close encounter is expected at the Mestalla. Girona have drawn four of their last five away games and may settle for a share of the spoils against Valencia as survival is not yet secured.

Score prediction: Valencia 1-1 Girona

Atletico Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao (Saturday, 8pm)

Atletico Madrid's focus is clearly the Champions League and the first leg of their semi-final against Arsenal comes up on Wednesday.

Diego Simeone's men have lost their last four LaLiga games and could be stunned by Athletic Bilbao, who edged past Osasuna 1-0 on Tuesday.

Score prediction: Atletico Madrid 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

Rayo Vallecano vs Real Sociedad (Sunday, 1pm)

Neither team is yet secure of survival and Rayo Vallecano can give their hopes a lift with victory over Real Sociedad.

Rayo have won five of their last nine home games, showing their class by making the Conference League semi-finals, while the visitors have suffered three away league defeats on the trot.

Score prediction: Rayo Vallecano 2-0 Real Sociedad

Real Oviedo vs Elche (Sunday, 3.15pm)

Basement boys Real Oviedo are enjoying a late resurgence and they had won three of their last four ahead of Thursday's visit from Villarreal.

Elche have raised their game too, but they have lost six away league games on the spin.

Score prediction: Real Oviedo 2-1 Elche

Osasuna vs Sevilla (Sunday, 5.30pm)

Osasuna have lost only two of their 15 home games in LaLiga this season and they should have too much for Sevilla, who faced a tough trip to Levante on Thursday.

The visitors have lost eight of 15 away league matches and Osasuna may still feel they are in European contention.

Score prediction: Osasuna 1-0 Sevilla

Villarreal vs Celta Vigo (Sunday, 8pm)

Villarreal look to be winning the battle with Atletico for third and can edge a high-scoring affair with Celta Vigo.

The Yellow Submarine have won four in a row at home, but conceded on each occasion and Celta know exactly where the goal is.

Score prediction: Villarreal 3-1 Celta Vigo

Espanyol vs Levante (Monday, 8pm)

Espanyol have picked up only two points in six home league games while Levante have lost seven of their last nine away league outings.

That makes this tough to call and a point apiece may suit both parties.

Score prediction: Espanyol 1-1 Levant
