Official: Dany Freire Joins Barcelona’s La Masia Pathway
FC Barcelona have officially confirmed the signing of Dany Freire, a 16-year-old forward who has represented both Luxembourg and Portugal at youth international level. The Blaugranes made the move official on Wednesday, bringing Freire into the youth setup from CS Fola Esch after he spent the summer on trial at La Masia.
Freire penned his contract alongside José Ramon Alexanco, Barcelona’s director of youth football, formalising his place within the Catalan club’s development pipeline. The primary confirmation from the club does not disclose the length of the deal, any fee involved, or further contractual clauses, and no such detail should be assumed until Barcelona or another reliable outlet independently verifies it.
The move had been expected for several days. It was reported last week that Barcelona had reached an agreement to sign Freire, with the teenager having already impressed La Masia coaches during his summer trial. Despite the transfer window having closed at the start of September, Barcelona have continued working to strengthen their academy ranks, a pattern consistent with the club’s broader approach to investing in and developing young players across the age groups.
Freire is regarded as a notably exciting prospect within his age bracket, though the specifics of his footballing profile beyond his international representation for Luxembourg and Portugal at youth level remain limited in the club’s own confirmation. Given that his trial took place at U18 level, that is likely to be his starting point at Barcelona, with the possibility of featuring for the U19s in the UEFA Youth League as he settles into the club’s academy pathway.
Freire’s arrival comes as Barcelona also pursue 15-year-old JJ Gabriel, hoping to win the race for his signature once he departs Manchester United.
