FC Barcelona have confirmed the departure of academy midfielder Guille Fernandez, who has joined Mallorca. The move was completed on the final day of the summer transfer market, following a period in which Barcelona’s sporting department worked to reinforce Hansi Flick’s team and find new clubs for players outside the coach’s plans.

Fernandez leaves after eight years at Barcelona, where he progressed through the club’s youth system and reached Barca Atletic at the age of 16. He was included in several first-team matchday squads under Flick but did not make a competitive appearance for the senior side.

His record with the reserve team stands at 62 appearances and eight goals. Those performances came during a rapid development through La Masia before the midfielder’s move to Mallorca.

Deal Terms

As Mundo Deportivo reported, Barcelona received €2.2 million for 60% of Fernandez’s federative rights. The club will retain the remaining 40% of his rights in the event of a future sale.

Barcelona have also retained a buyback option on the midfielder. The available reporting does not specify the length of Fernandez’s contract at Mallorca or the period in which the buyback option can be activated, so those details remain unconfirmed.

The agreement gives Fernandez the opportunity to pursue regular first-team football at Mallorca after he was unable to establish himself in Barcelona’s senior side. For Barcelona, retaining a percentage of his rights and a buyback option preserves an interest in his future development.
