Mourinho: Real Madrid could have scored ‘eight goals’ against Inter

José Mourinho hits back at criticism following Real Madrid’s 2-1 win against Inter: ‘We could have scored eight goals.’

Real Madrid coach Mourinho spoke again about the Merengues’ recent 2-1 win over Inter during a press conference on Friday.

Real Madrid supporters didn’t seem quite happy about their team’s performances, and some players were booed during the match.

Spanish media were also quite critical of Real Madrid despite their victory, but Mourinho did not share the same view.

“Then these people don’t say that we defended well or that we could have scored eight goals,” he said on Friday via Marca.

“There will be boring matches where the teams don’t take risks and finish 0-0. Against Inter, we could have put four, but we could have put eight. Why don’t they say so? Aren’t they happy because we won?

“The staff is very happy; we have suffered and lost together against Betis. We have that feeling and commitment to work for Madrid. We will do our best to make people happy.”

Real Madrid took a two-goal lead in the first half against defending Serie A champions Inter, while Carlos Augusto score the Nerazzurri’s only goal in the second half.

Serie A clubs secured only one victory in the opening Champions League Round of the campaign.

Inter lost away at Real Madrid, while Napoli lost to Arsenal at the Stadio Maradona in Naples.

On Thursday, Roma drew 1-1 away at Fenerbahce, while Como beat RB Leipzig 4-1 at home, winning their first-ever Champions League game.
