Mbappé injury rules him out of France vs. Italy and maybe Roma vs. Real Madrid

It is now confirmed that Kylian Mbappé will miss the Nations League match against Italy on October 2 and potentially Roma in the Champions League too, as he has left the France squad with a knee injury.

The Azzurri will visit Paris on Friday October 2 to continue the tournament, having lost the opener 2-0 at home to Belgium.

Mbappé to miss Italy and Roma matches

Mbappé scored the only goal of his team’s opening Group A fixture last night, allowing them to defeat Vincenzo Montella’s Turkiye 1-0, but then limped off with a knee problem.

Coach Zinedine Zidane immediately noted that he was worried about the extent of the damage, and he was sent straight back to Madrid for tests with his club doctors.

A statement released by Real Madrid gives the diagnosis of a hyperextension of the posterior capsule in the left knee.

There were fears he had suffered a lesion to the ligaments, but this is a much less serious problem, so will be out for at least 10-12 days.

That makes it unlikely that he will make a full recovery in time for October 14, which is when Real Madrid visit Roma in the Champions League, although he could be at least on the bench.

It is now far from likely that he could miss the second Nations League showdown with Italy on November 12 as well.
