Manchester United’s hopes of snapping up Barcelona star Alejandro Balde appear to have been given a major boost following events on Sunday, amid reports that the Catalan giants have also named their asking price for the full-back.

It’s no secret that Michael Carrick wants more competition for Luke Shaw at left-back and is keen to land a fresh addition before the summer transfer window shuts on September 1.

Newcastle’s Lewis Hall has been Man Utd’s top target in that regard, but our sources have revealed that the England star’s rising price has seen the Red Devils look at five alternatives – including Balde.

It was reported last week that United had enquired about Balde’s availability, with the Barca academy graduate having made over 150 appearances for the reigning LaLiga champions.

The 22-year-old is currently under contract for another two years but is no longer first-choice under Hansi Flick, leading to constant speculation surrounding his future.

Indeed, Flick left Balde out of his matchday squad for the 5-0 rout of Elche on Sunday amid rumours of a potential switch to Old Trafford.

Explaining Balde’s absence in his pre-match interview, Flick said: “I spoke with Alejandro this morning and told him that I think he’s not here at 100%. Clear your mind and then we’ll talk.”

Addressing the situation after the Eclche win, the German added: “I have not told Alejandro Balde to leave.

“I spoke with him this morning, I told him to think about it and that we’ll talk again tomorrow.”

Barcelona named their price for Man Utd target Balde

Given the latest events, along with strong links to United, Spanish outlet SPORT claims Camp Nou chiefs are willing to cash in on Balde for around €45million (£38m) as they look to raise funds following another summer of significant spending.

That’s a complete change in stance from earlier in the window, when Barcelona had no real desire to try and offload Balde.

However, the player himself is now reported to be pushing for an exit, opening the door for United to make their move as a result.

The Red Devils are not the only interested suitor, however, with Aston Villa and Benfica also believed to be keeping tabs on Balde’s situation.

Indeed, Benfica have already approached Barcelona with a deal, only for that offer to be immediately rebuffed over the fee offered.

One to keep an eye on then until the window closes in just over a week’s time, especially after Shaw’s struggles in the shock 2-0 defeat at Hull on Saturday.

Indeed, the Manchester Evening News gave the experienced full-back a 4/10 for his performance, stating that he “if he does not have the legs to contribute in attack against Hull, he will struggle even more against better sides this season.”

Meanwhile, TEAMtalk sources can reveal that United, along with Tottenham, have been offered the chance to sign a wantaway Premier League striker before the window closes.
