Gabriel Jesus gets first Barcelona minutes in 5-0 Valencia rout

Jesus was the last of Barcelona’s seven summer signings, arriving from Arsenal for a fee of around €10 million to address a shortfall at centre-forward following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres. His arrival added another option in the forward line as Barcelona began the season.
In the closing stages against a Valencia side already beaten, Jesus stayed involved across the forward line. He showed mobility, intensity and a willingness to attack space, qualities that offered Barcelona a different option in attack during the final phase of the match.
A late cameo in a match that was already decided is not enough to draw firm conclusions about where Jesus fits into Flick’s plans. He will need time and rhythm to reach his best level in Blaugrana, while future appearances may come in more contested circumstances. His debut, however, provided an initial look at the movement and attacking profile he can bring to Barcelona.
