Bayern Munich competing with Barcelona for the World Cup winner

The contract nearing its end increases the appeal of the deal

Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on one of Atletico Madrid's stars, weighing up a possible move in the upcoming transfer windows, according to a Spanish press report.

Madrid-based newspaper "AS" reported today, Saturday, that the Bavarian club are watching Marcos Llorente closely and have placed him among their list of potential targets, thanks to his ability to play in more than one position.

Llorente's contract with Atletico Madrid expires in the summer of 2027. That means he could open talks with other clubs from next January should he fail to agree fresh terms with the Spanish club. According to German newspaper "sport1" Barcelona are also monitoring his situation with interest.

The 31-year-old joined the Rojiblancos in 2019 and has racked up more than 300 appearances in their shirt. He was recently crowned World Cup champion with Spain before announcing his international retirement.

Comfortable in midfield or at right-back, the former Real Madrid man could prove an attractive option for coach Vincent Kompany, especially with the Bavarians' midfield having drawn criticism this season.
