Barcelona Rely on Raphinha’s Preference as Renewal Stalls

Barcelona sporting director Deco confirmed last week that an agreement had been reached to extend Raphinha’s contract until 2030, but there has reportedly been no further movement since that announcement, leaving the door ajar for interested parties.
Financially, the gap could prove significant. Barcelona are said to be prepared to pay Raphinha €27m gross per year under the new terms, but the quartet chasing his signature have already made clear they are willing to pay considerably more. That puts the club in a delicate position, particularly given Raphinha turns 30 in December, a factor that will weigh on how far Barcelona are willing to stretch their wage structure to retain him.
On the pitch, there is little debate about his value.
