Barcelona may try to poach another key Dortmund player before end of transfer window
Borussia Dortmund and reigning Spanish champions Barcelona are rumoured to have at least one more deal in the works before the summer transfer window slams shut.
Last month, Karim Adeyemi joined the Blaugrana on a five-year contract, with Dortmund receiving an initial fee of 22 million euros plus future performance-related add-ons and a sell-on windfall. Now, Dortmund is close to finalizing a permanent transfer for Barcelona's 20-year-old right-back, Héctor Fort. During discussions over Fort's transfer, the Barcelona brass have reportedly inquired about the availability of Dortmund's top striker, Serhou Guirassy.
The France-born Guinean international would fill Barcelona's biggest area of need. The Catalans have been searching for a new No. 9 following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres, who have joined MLS outfit Chicago Fire and Champions League holders Paris-Saint Germain, respectively, earlier this summer. Their well-publicized pursuit of Julian Alvarez, a runner-up with Argentina at this summer's World Cup, from domestic rivals Atletico Madrid appears set to fall short, barring any late twists and turns in the transfer saga.
Guirassy has been the subject of transfer rumours throughout the summer. His long-term future at the Westfalenstadion is not firmly secured. The 30-year-old's contract runs until June 30, 2028. Negotiations over a potential extension have not commenced to date.
While Dortmund may be tempted by the prospect of selling Guirassy now in order to maximize the transfer value of their main striker, such a decision would leave the club's striking ranks dangerously thin.
The current internal senior options beyond Guirassy are Fábio Silva and Maximilian Beier. Silva scored in Dortmund's 2-1 defeat to arch-rivals Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup on Saturday. However, his career has been marked by low scoring outputs and inconsistent performances at club level. He managed only 3 goals in his first season with BVB in 2025-2026.
Beier has been a serviceable Swiss Army knife for Die Schwarzgelben across multiple positions, but has yet to demonstrate consistent goal-scoring instincts since arriving from Hoffenheim in 2024.
Meanwhile, Guirassy has scored 60 goals in 97 matches across all competitions for BVB since his switch from VfB Stuttgart two years ago. During the 2024-2025 season, he set a Dortmund single-season goal record in the Champions League, bagging 13 goals in 14 contests, including a hat-trick against his current suitors in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.
Barring the completion of a transfer for a poaching striker before the deadline, it is unlikely Barcelona will be able to convince Lars and Ricken and co. to let Guirassy go.
The German transfer window closes on August 31. Dortmund will open their Bundesliga campaign at home against Hamburg on August 29.
