Barcelona Eye Dimarco Move as Balde Swap Talks Advance

According to reports, Barça are in talks with Inter Milan over a possible swap that would see Alejandro Balde head to Italy while 28-year-old Federico Dimarco makes the reverse journey to Spain. The Catalan club reportedly believes such a move could genuinely strengthen the squad, even if the operation is far from straightforward.
The claim originates with SPORT, which reports that Barcelona and Inter are discussing the Balde-Dimarco exchange directly. The Catalan giants would reportedly also need to pay a little extra on top of the swap itself, while the deal is considered complicated.
The structural challenge is significant. Inter are said to be hesitant to part with Dimarco, a player the report frames as key to their plans, which is why the deal is considered complicated at this stage. Barcelona would also reportedly need to make an additional payment as part of the proposed exchange.
On the positional side, Dimarco’s arrival would hand Barcelona considerable depth on the left flank, with João Cancelo and Xavi Espart also contributing in that area. Espart has drawn plenty of praise from Hansi Flick recently and continues to progress quickly under his guidance, which adds to the competition Balde already faces for minutes. Reports have also suggested the young full-back wants to stay and fight for his place, meaning any exit would not necessarily reflect his own preference.
The proposal fits into a broader pattern of late-window business at Barcelona, where sales and squad trimming have dominated headlines almost as much as incomings. A Dimarco arrival would address a specific need while also creating a route to move Balde on, even against the player’s own reported wishes.
