Barcelona have had an official bid accepted by Newcastle for Anthony Gordon, with the package totalling €80million, reports Fabrizio Romano.

Gordon's returns this season, particularly in the Champions League, have alerted multiple top clubs. Indeed, the Newcastle winger was directly involved in 22 goals this season, and 17 came in Europe.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are among the top clubs after him, while Barcelona recently entered the race.

While they had an option to buy loanee Marcus Rashford for £26million - who competes for England's left-wing spot with Gordon - Barca have quickly progressed through negotiations for the Newcastle man, instead.

Transfer insider Romano has now given the 'here we go' on Gordon's switch to Barca, stating an official bid of €70million (£60.7m), rising to €80million (£69.3m) has been accepted.

He followed up by suggested Gordon will travel for his Barca medical this week, as Newcastle wanted the transfer done and dusted as soon as possible.

Romano has given an update, stating that Gordon will land in Barcelona on Thursday afternoon, with medical tests to follow immediately.

Where does this leave Rashford?

Gordon's signing at Barca throws a huge spanner in the works in regards to Rashford's plans. He has long been eager to be a Barcelona player, and got his wish as a loanee this season, repaying the faith of the club with 14 goals and 14 assists in all competitions, helping the side to La Liga triumph.

Barca had a £26million option to buy Rashford, and while reports have at times suggested the club were trying to change the terms of that deal, of late it has been suggested Hansi Flick has gone all in on the transfer.

With Gordon joining, though, and for more than triple Rashford would have cost, it seems his permanent signing is extremely unlikely, and shows a lack of faith in his abilities after a strong season.

Rashford will be devastated if he doesn't get his move, after long making it clear he wanted it, most recently stating: "I don't know. I'm not a magician. If I was, I'd stay, so we'll see!"

Whether there will be other clubs queuing up for him remains to be seen. Some have suggested this could open the door to his addition back to the Manchester United squad, as Ruben Amorim has now left, he might be wanted there again.

Some Aston Villa fans want Rashford back there, where he spent half a season on loan in 2024-25 and impressed.
