A historic beginning: Karim Adeyemi achieves a rare feat in La Liga

The German quickly leaves his mark

Germany's Karim Adeyemi wrote his name into La Liga history on Sunday evening. The Barcelona star scored against Elche at the Manuel Martínez Valero stadium in the second round of the Spanish league.

Adeyemi found the back of Elche's net in the third minute of first-half stoppage time. Raphinha slipped him a superb pass, and the German broke clear before firing home from inside the penalty area for Barcelona's second of the match.

That goal earned Adeyemi a place on a historic list of German players to have scored on their La Liga debut.

The statistics-focused account "MisterChip" stated: "The only five German players to have scored in their first match in the history of the Spanish league: 1929: Walter Bockhardt (Barcelona), 1992: Andreas Brehme (Zaragoza), 1996: Oliver Neuville (Tenerife), 2025: Jeremie Toljan (Levante), 2026: Karim Adeyemi (Barcelona)".

Adeyemi joined Barcelona in the ongoing summer transfer window, arriving from Borussia Dortmund on a contract until 2031. The Catalans signed him to bolster their attack for the period ahead.
