  • Tottenham are unbeaten in Europe, winning two and drawing two

  • Recommended bet: PSG to win and over 2.5 goals

Tottenham face Paris Saint-Germain in the French capital on Wednesday night looking to extend their unbeaten run in the Champions League, but the reigning European champions have lost just twice all season.

Spurs will be looking to bounce back after losing the North London derby 4-1 to Arsenal on Sunday, but face an almighty challenge in PSG.

Team news

PSG star Ousmane Dembele has missed the last two games with a calf injury, but is expected to be available to face Spurs.

However, Desire Doue is out with a hamstring issue and Achraf Hakimi is also sidelined.

Spurs will be without Brennan Johnson due to suspension, but fellow forward Randal Kolo Muani, who is on loan from PSG, is eligible to face his parent club.

Midfielder Lucas Bergvall should be involved after recovering from a concussion.

The stats

PSG and Tottenham have met only once before in European competition and that was the UEFA Super Cup in August. Spurs led 2-0 but PSG fought back to level the scores before winning on penalties.

PSG have lost only two of their last eight matches against English teams in European competition.

Spurs are unbeaten in their last three matches against French teams in the Champions League proper.

PSG, who were beaten by Bayern Munich last time out in the Champions League, have never lost successive group stage/league phase matches at home.

Prediction

After a humiliating 4-1 defeat at the hands of North London rivals Arsenal, the last thing Tottenham needed was a trip to face the European champions in Paris, but that is exactly what Thomas Frank must contend with on Wednesday.

Despite being unbeaten in the Champions League, Spurs’ overall form is patchy with just three wins in the last 11 matches, so PSG are the favourites going into this game.

The French side are top of the Ligue 1 table and have won three of their four Champions League matches, losing at home to Bayern at the start of November.

This game offers PSG an opportunity to strengthen their grip on the top positions in the league table to go straight through to the last 16 and it is a chance they should take with relative ease.

For Tottenham, their progress in the tournament won’t be defined by what happens in Paris this week.

While backing PSG to win is the smart move, picking out over 2.5 goals could be another savvy pick as Spurs have conceded nine goals in the last five, while the French side simply do not do goalless draws.

PSG have played 104 successive matches in Europe since they were last involved in a 0-0 scoreline.
