UEFA deliver Celtic recognition despite disappointing Europa League defeat

Celtic have endured a difficult few days, but UEFA have at least provided Mika Baur with something to celebrate following the Europa League defeat to Ferencvaros.

Martin O’Neill’s side were beaten 3-1 at Parkhead on Thursday before suffering another home defeat against Rangers on Sunday, increasing the pressure surrounding the Hoops.

The Ferencvaros loss was greeted by boos from sections of the Celtic support, while the performance against Rangers also attracted heavy criticism, including from former goalkeeper Pat Bonner.

However, UEFA have now highlighted one of the few bright moments from Celtic’s disappointing European night.

The official Europa League account included Baur’s equaliser against Ferencvaros in a collection of four “brilliant team goals” from the latest round of fixtures.

Celtic feature alongside Besiktas, Bournemouth and Jagiellonia, with supporters asked to choose their favourite from the four strikes.

Baur’s goal came shortly before half-time at Parkhead, with Kieran Tierney providing the cutback before the German midfielder finished to bring Celtic level at 1-1.

The hosts would quickly fall behind again before eventually losing 3-1, but the recognition represents a positive moment for Baur after a challenging start to life in Glasgow following his summer move.
