Giovani Lo Celso's return from injury could be crucial for Real Betis against Braga in the Europa League
  • Real Betis have lost just one of their last 11 home fixtures

  • Braga have scored less than two goals in six of their last seven Europa League games

  • Recommended bet: Real Betis to win

Real Betis have saved some of their better performances for European nights and are in a strong position against Braga, having fought out a 1-1 draw in northern Portugal last Wednesday.

The onus was on Braga to establish a first-leg advantage, but they had no real complaints with a tie after an evenly matched encounter.

If Braga are to progress they need to do it the hard way.

However, they can take some confidence from their positive away performances in the league phase which included wins over Celtic (2-0) and Nice (1-0).

Betis remain unbeaten in this season's Europa League home matches, posting four wins and one draw.

They are sitting fifth in La Liga despite a recent dip in form which has seen them take just five points from their last seven matches.

Team news

Veteran midfielder Isco (ankle) has not featured since November and Junior Firpo and Angel Ortiz (unspecified injuries) have been absent since the international break.

However, Giovani Lo Celso (muscle strain) came off the bench at the weekend and could be in contention to make his first start since January.

Brazilian midfielder Vitor Carvalho (hip) returned to action for Sunday's 1-0 league victory at home to Arouca but key Braga defender Sikou Niakate was absent and is rated an injury doubt.

Bosnian centre-back Adrian Barisic (muscle strain) has not featured since February and Uruguay international Rodrigo Zalazar (unspecified injury) has been sidelined for three weeks.

The stats

Betis have won their last four Europa League home matches.

The Andalusians have opened the scoring in each of their five Europa League home games.

Six of Betis' last eight games have featured fewer than three goals.

Betis have kept clean sheets in their last two home matches.

Braga have achieved just one shutout in their last four away fixtures.

Prediction

Betis reached last year's Conference League final, where they lost 4-1 to Chelsea, but they have looked just as strong in the Europa League and can advance to the final four by defeating Braga at Estadio La Cartuja.

Europa League progression has become the priority for Betis, who have fallen 11 points adrift of fourth-placed Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

And they competed at a good level in last Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Braga, winning the shot count by 10 to seven.

Braga are a technical side and carved out a 61% possession share in the opening leg.

But they are weakened by the absence of injured midfielder Zalazar and may struggle to avoid defeat on a night when Betis' vocal home support could give them an extra edge.
