Balázs Borbély's Ferncvaros are fancied to win at home to Gornik Zabrze on Wednesday evening.

Ferencvaros have not lost a home European tie since their 2-1 Europa League defeat to Tottenham in October 2024 and they will be aiming to extend that run against Gornik Zabrze this week.

Their only loss in last season's league phase was a 4-0 rout by Nottingham Forest on matchday eight and they are favourites to beat their Polish visitors in the home leg of their tie in the third qualifying round.

Team news

Ferencvaros have problems in midfield as Philippe Rommens is suspended and former Liverpool man Naby Keita is injured. In-form striker Lenny Joseph will lead the line.

Gornik Zabrze are in good shape for their trip to Hungary, although Polish midfielder Jaroslaw Kubicki remains sidelined.

The stats

Both teams have scored in four of Ferencvaros' last six games and there were over 2.5 goals in seven of their last eight matches in all competitions.

Ferencvaros have opened the scoring in the eighth, 27th, 14th and 22nd minutes of their four Europa League qualifiers this season.

Only one of Gornik Zabrze's last 12 matches featured over 3.5 goals and they have conceded the first goal in all three of their competitive fixtures this season.

Gornik had only one shot in the away leg of their Champions League qualifying tie against Fenerbahce

Prediction

Gornik finished as runners-up to Lech Poznan in last season's Polish Ekstraklasa, earning them a crack at qualifying for the Champions League.

They were not disgraced in a 2-1 aggregate defeat to star-studded Fenerbahce, although they mustered only one attempt at goal in the away leg in Turkey.

The losers of Gornik's Europa League qualifier against Ferencvaros will drop into the Conference League play-offs, where they take on a classy Monaco side.

Gornik started the 2026-27 league season with a 2-1 home win over Slask Wroclaw, who went ahead in the seventh minute and led for almost an hour.

Wednesday's game is Ferencvaros's fifth tie in this season's Europa League qualifiers and they have taken the lead inside 27 minutes in each of the first four.

The Hungarians lost 4-2 in their league opener at Paksi SE, but scored two first-half goals in that defeat and should be backed to be leading at half-time and full-time.

Ferencvaros had an impressive run in last season's Europa League, losing 4-2 on aggregate to Braga in the round of 16 despite winning the home leg 2-0.

Manager Robbie Keane left at the end of the 2025-26 campaign but his successor, Balázs Borbély, oversaw an entertaining 4-3 aggregate win over FC Twente in the second qualifying round.

The Greens dug deep after midfielder Rommens was sent off in the first half of the second leg against Twente and they look like tough opponents for Gornik.

Score Prediction: Ferencvaros 2-0 Gornik Zabrze
