Pierre Sage faces another tough test as Crystal Palace prepare to take on Lech Poznan

Last season’s victory over La Liga outfit Rayo Vallecano was one of the greatest nights in Crystal Palace’s history, but manager Oliver Glasner has now gone and the Eagles have struggled in the first weeks of the new campaign under Pierre Sage.

That victory in Leipzig enabled them to qualify for this season’s Europa League, but they face a tough early examination against Lech Poznan, who won the Polish Ekstraklasa by four points last season and suffered their first defeat in 10 matches at the weekend.

Team news

Palace striker Eddie Nketiah faces a fitness test but the Eagles are set to be without Ismaila Sarr, Dean Henderson, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Chadi Raid.

Centre back Alex Douglas, defensive midfielder Antoni Kozubal and winger Ali Gholizadeh are all set to miss out for the visitors.

The stats

Lech Poznan have lost just one of their last 10 matches.

The Poles scored 15 goals in their four Europa League qualifying matches.

Crystal Palace have lost three of their opening four matches of the Premier League season.

Seven of Poznan’s last eight encounters have featured at least three goals.

Poznan have failed to score in just one of their last 16 away games.

Palace have conceded more goals than any other team in the opening four games of the Premier League campaign.

Prediction

With Crystal Palace having lost three of their opening four Premier League games under Pierre Sage, confidence could be low in the Eagles’ camp and Lech Poznan can provide them with a severe test this week.

The Polish champions will have to play well to get a positive result from their opening league stage match in the Europa League, but 15 goals in their four qualifying games suggests they will not sit back.

Palace have conceded at least twice in each of their four Premier League matches this season, so backing both teams to score looks a solid foundation for a Bet Builder selection.

If the Polish side do break through, it could be Iranian forward Allahyar Sayyadmanesh who does the damage.

He has had multiple goal efforts in each of his last six outings and scored against both KI Klaksvik and Thun in previous rounds, so he has really hit the ground running this term, also netting four times in domestic league games.

It is also worth chancing that midfielder Radoslaw Murawski will pick up a booking.

Three of his four cautions this term have come in European matches and he has committed at least two fouls in three of his last four league outings.

Score prediction: Crystal Palace 1-2 Lech Poznan
