Celtic must dust themselves off after a humbling defeat to Rangers at Ibrox in the League Cup on Sunday, with Martin O'Neill describing that reverse as a "wake-up call" for his team.

Skipper Callum McGregor pointed to the previous Champions League qualifier collapse against LASK last month as evidence of Celtic failing to perform in big games this season.

Ferencvaros are making solid progress under Balazs Borbely this season and will arrive in Glasgow with hopes of inflicting more misery on the Parkhead faithful.

Team news

Alistair Johnston and Callum Osmand remain on the sidelines for Celtic, while winger Jota is continuing his rehab from a long-term injury and is some way off a first team return.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain completes a suspension, while Yang Hyun-jun is on international duty with South Korea.

Ferencvaros got minutes into Habib Maiga and Adam Madarasz in their weekend cup win as they returned from injury, while new signing Matus Bero bagged a hat-trick in the win at Debreceni Egyetemi. They have not reported any fresh injury worries.

The stats

Celtic lost a behind-closed-doors Champions League qualifier to Ferencvaros in Glasgow in August 2020 under Neil Lennon.

The Hoops were home and away winners in the 2021/22 Europa League group stage, including a 2-0 success at Parkhead.

Over 2.5 goals have been scored in eight of Celtic's last nine games in all competitions.

Ferencvaros have kept just one clean sheet in their last nine away games in the Europa League main draw.

The Hungarians are unbeaten in eight games through the qualifying process to reach this stage (W6, D2).

Summer signing Camilo Duran has six goals and three assists for Celtic, including a double against LASK in Glasgow in the Champions League qualifiers.

Prediction

Celtic took quite the beating from Rangers on Sunday and confidence in the Bhoys' camp will have taken a knock so soon after their implosion in Linz last month.

While their home form is generally reliable, the East End of Glasgow is far from the fortress O'Neill forged in his first tenure at the club more than two decades ago.

Indeed, of their last 22 Europa League home games in the main draw, Celtic have lost 11 times there.

Ferencvaros began their qualifying journey for this competition in early July and have won six of eight games. They were aided in the final qualifying round as Trabzonspor had three players sent off across the two matches.

The Hungarians have, however, lost just one of their 15 competitive games under Borbely, who succeeded Robbie Keane in the dugout. Having watched Celtic on Sunday, Borbely will see a side that is fragile in confidence.

Camilo Duran has made a super start in Glasgow and the Colombian can keep that going and perhaps ensure Celtic avoid another setback.

Score prediction: Celtic 2-2 Ferencvaros
