  • Leicester City begin their campaign away at newly-promoted Notts County

  • Sheffield Wednesday begin new era with a trip to Leyton Orient

  • League Two champions Bromley take on Barnsley at Oakwell

The new League One campaign kicks off on Saturday with a full complement of games to be played.

Leicester are in the third tier a decade after lifting the Premier League title and head to Notts County for their opener while Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping for a less traumatic season and travel to the capital to take on Leyton Orient.

Here we take a look at all 12 games taking place on Saturday, with three games in the early kick-off slot and nine at 3pm.

Notts County vs Leicester - Saturday August 15 (12.30pm)

Notts County won the League Two play-off final to reach this level and held Championship side Burnley in the Carabao Cup last weekend before losing on penalties.

Leicester endured a rough time in the second tier last season but, while the Magpies will provide a tough test, the Foxes can mark their return to League One with a narrow win.

Prediction: Notts County 0-1 Leicester (5/1 with LiveScore Bet)

Oxford vs MK Dons - Saturday August 15 (12.30pm)

Two leagues separated these sides last season with Oxford relegated from the Championship and MK Dons earning promotion from the fourth tier.

The Dons, who have lost only two league games since the first week of January, will not fear the U’s and can earn a positive result.

Prediction: Oxford United 2-2 MK Dons (17/2 with LiveScore Bet)

Reading vs Luton - Saturday August 15 (12.30pm)

Reading had to settle for mid-table in League One last season but did do the double over Luton.

However, the Hatters are among the favourites to push for promotion this time around and should have enough to earn an opening-day point on the road.

Prediction: Reading 1-1 Luton (9/2 with LiveScore Bet)

Cambridge vs Wigan - Saturday August 15 (3pm)

Cambridge bounced back to League One at the first time of asking following their relegation in 2024-25 and will be glad to be at home for the season opener.

Wigan, who finished 16th last season, have lost some important players this summer, including goalkeeper Sam Tickle, so a draw on the road would settle any early doubts.

Prediction: Cambridge 1-1 Wigan (4/1 with LiveScore Bet)

Barnsley vs Bromley - Saturday, August 15 (3pm)

This is the first time Bromley will have played in the third tier but, having achieved two promotions in three seasons, the Ravens will not be fearing any team in League One and will be confident they can compete.

However, they first come up against Barnsley who are well-versed at this level and the Tykes’ know-how should help them earn three points on opening day.

Prediction: Barnsley 2-0 Bromley (6/1 with LiveScore Bet)

Leyton Orient vs Sheffield Wednesday - Saturday August 15 (3pm)

Sheffield Wednesday can finally look forward with new owners after last season was beset by off-field problems and a points deduction which saw the team finish bottom of the Championship with zero points.

However, the Owls can now head to the capital full of optimism and beat a Leyton Orient side who only narrowly avoided the drop to League Two last May.

Prediction: Leyton Orient 1-2 Sheffield Wednesday (23/4 with LiveScore Bet)

Huddersfield vs AFC Wimbledon - Saturday August 15 (3pm)

Huddersfield will be pushing for a place in the League One play-offs this season and a win in the first game would be the perfect start.

The Terriers finished the 2025/26 campaign with a 4-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon and while they may not hit four again, they will be confident of picking up another three points.

Prediction: Huddersfield 2-0 AFC Wimbledon (21/4 with LiveScore Bet)

Blackpool vs Wycombe - Saturday August 15 (3pm)

Blackpool and Wycombe are pretty evenly matched heading into the new campaign.

The Tangerines will be hoping home advantage gives them the edge but a draw looks a likely outcome on Saturday.

Prediction: Blackpool 1-1 Wycombe (21/5 with LiveScore Bet)

Bradford City vs Peterborough - Saturday August 15 (3pm)

Bradford City kicked off the campaign with a 2-0 win over Rochdale in the Carabao Cup and will be able to build on that result with another home victory.

Peterborough suffered a 2-0 defeat at Valley Parade on Valentine’s Day last season and are expected to leave broken-hearted again.

Prediction: Bradford City 2-0 Peterborough (21/4 with LiveScore Bet)

Plymouth vs Stockport - Saturday August 15 (3pm)

Plymouth are another team being tipped for a push at promotion after losing only two of their last 12 games in 2025-26.

However, while Argyle will be optimistic, Stockport should prove a tough challenge and can earn a point at Home Park.

Prediction: Plymouth 1-1 Stockport (9/2 with LiveScore Bet)

Mansfield Town vs Doncaster - Saturday August 15 (3pm)

Mansfield Town finished 10th last season and will be looking to push on after two campaigns at this level.

The Stags host Doncaster on Saturday and have what it takes to record an opening-day victory.

Prediction: Mansfield Town 2-1 Doncaster (11/2 with LiveScore Bet)

Burton vs Stevenage - Saturday August 15 (3pm)

Burton are often tipped to struggle at this level but enjoy proving the doubters wrong.

However, having finished 20th last season and the campaign before, time could finally be up for the Brewers and an opening-day defeat to Stevenage could set the ball rolling.

Prediction: Burton 0-1 Stevenage (27/5 with LiveScore Bet)
