With the strong pace that Lincoln and Cardiff set, many teams have known for some time that a League One play-off place would be the best that they could hope for.

Bolton have been challenging all season but fell away from the automatic promotion race thanks to a sloppy end to the season, in the first leg of this play-off semi-final they face a Bradford side who had a similarly patchy end to the campaign.

Team news

Bolton have had some good news on the injury front, with top goalscorer Sam Dalby, midfielder Ethan Erhahon and defender George Johnston all reportedly set to feature in some capacity in this clash after absences.

Bradford will be without Tyreik Wright and Bobby Pointon for this clash but Antoni Sarcevic did return and get on the scoresheet in their final-day win over Exeter.

The stats

Bolton are unbeaten in the last five meetings between these two, in which Bradford have managed to find the net only twice.

However, both teams have scored in six of Wanderers’ last seven matches and they have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last eight so this could be a more open affair than those previous encounters between this pair.

Bradford have conceded the first goal in five of their last six games so could be on the front foot early on.

Prediction

A final-day defeat to Luton saw Bolton miss out on a second-leg home advantage for the play-offs but the Hatters had much more to play for than their opponents and Steven Schumacher’s team are fancied to bounce back with a win over Bradford in this clash.

The hosts have been all but unbeatable at home this season, with that defeat to Luton just their second loss in their last 23 at home.

By contrast Bradford lost 10 of their 23 regular season games away from home and were thoroughly outclassed when these two met in the EFL Trophy on this ground back in December as Bolton ran out 3-0 winners.

Amario Cozier-Duberry has been one of the outstanding players in the division this season, with eight goals and 11 assists in 30 starts for the Trotters.

The Brighton loanee could produce another moment of magic to help see his team return to Bradford with a first-leg lead in this play-off clash.
