This social media post has aged poorly and will make every Southampton fan laugh
Cyle Larin and Southampton continue to be a match made in heaven.
Larin fired home another two Championship goals for the season during the Saints' emphatic 4-1 win over Bristol City on Saturday, taking his tally for the second-tier campaign to an outrageous seven strikes from seven games.
At this frightening pace, he could even eclipse Rickie Lambert's 30-goal heroics, which is the total the revered striker put away during his debut season on South Coast soil in league action.
It just feels as if it was meant to be that the Brampton Bagsman and Tonda Eckert's side would cross paths, almost destined that he would be the leading man Southampton would need to fire them to promotion, after the self inflicted horrors of Spygate.
There's still a lot of the season left, but the Saints are in the expanded playoff picture right now, with four wins next to their name, and West Ham United - the early league leaders - are the only team to have scored more.
Many outsiders were banging on the drum that the Eckert and Co. would struggle this season, due to the lingering after effects of Spygate, but the machine the German has put together is arguably stronger than ever.
Larin is the crown jewel, but there were some doubters, too, over whether he'd be a success moving to England.
Safe to say, they look rather foolish.
The social media post which has aged poorly
In all fairness, when Larin first left Mallorca behind in January to move to Southampton on loan, his numbers were quite damning.
He'd managed just 11 goals across his previous three seasons, playing for the Spanish side, alongside Feyenoord, so the initial reception when he signed was mixed.
Championship focused podcast Second Tier really didn't get on board with the loan acquisition, with a social media post, at the close of February, very critical of the January business in and out of St. Mary's.
It read: "In January, they sell Armstrong and loan out Downs while signing Cyle Larin who has scored one goal in 15 appearances.
Can someone explain the transfer logic at St Mary's?"
At the time, losing Adam Armstrong - who is a renowned goalscorer in the second tier - did feel like a risky move.
Moreover, swapping out a misfiring Damion Downs, for a new loan striker, who had scored just one paltry goal in the Eredivisie also felt a little misguided.
However, right now, Southampton fans will be laughing their heads off at this social media observation, which is only worsening with time.
Larin has proven them wrong
Indeed, Armstrong has now fallen back down to the Championship with Wolverhampton Wanderers and is yet to look like a world beater, like Larin.
He has just one goal next to his name from five outings, while Larin leads the goalscoring charts not only in the demanding division, but across all four major English leagues.
It can be said with confidence now that it was the right move to ditch Armstrong for the deadly number nine, with the lethal Canadian leaving him in the dust so far this campaign.
Downs has also been shipped out on loan again to Saint Louis City SC, having bagged zero goals last season out in Germany.
While the 6-foot-4 striker continued to misplace his shooting boots, Larin fired home a mightily impressive eight goals from just ten Championship starts, helping his new employers to enter the playoffs, subsequently.
This is where it all went pear-shaped, of course, on the playoff front, as the Saints' Spygate hijnks caught up with them.
But, Larin instantly settling in and being a monster in front of goal means the original post aged like milk, even before he collected another eight strikes this time around.
This is the nature of the beast, I suppose, when so many of us can voice opinions in the heat of moment. Inevitably, a clanger or two will be dropped.
Southampton fans have taken great delight in this particular howler, with a hope that Larin's incredible form in front of goal does finally result in promotion being won, or they will be the butt of a joke themselves, for another promotion slipping through their fingers.
