  • Wrexham are chasing a third straight home league victory

  • Charlton have won only two of their eight away games this season

  • Recommended bet: Wrexham to win to nil

Wrexham and Charlton were mixing it in League One last season and both will be happy with the progress that they have made since sealing their place in the Championship.

It is the Addicks who have made the most compelling beginning and after 14 games they are in the play-off positions, a start bolstered by a five-game unbeaten run.

Charlton come into this on the back of a 1-0 win at home to West Brom on Tuesday, with Sonny Carey landing the telling blow in injury-time, but they will still be wary of the threat that Wrexham possess.

The Red Dragons toppled Charlton 3-0 at home in League One last season, which helped them finish in the automatic promotion spots and seven points clear of the Addicks, and they are starting to find some consistency.

The well-invested Welsh outfit have won their last two home games in the Championship, which includes inflicting a first defeat of the season on leaders Coventry, and they may be able to continue their climb up the table.

Team news

Wrexham look set to deploy their favoured 3-4-1-2 system as they continue to be without Harry Ashfield, Lewis Brunt, Andy Cannon, Aaron James, Elliot Lee, Jay Rodriguez and Danny Ward.

Charlton, meanwhile, are virtually at full strength with Joshua Edwards their only confirmed absentee and manager Nathan Jones prioritises defence with a 3-1-4-2 formation likely to be favoured at the Racecourse Ground.

Prediction

Two promoted teams finding their feet in the Championship do battle at the Racecourse Ground and, while Charlton have made a stronger start, home advantage could be key for the Red Dragons.

Wrexham eased past Charlton 3-0 when they hosted them in League One last season and they are seeking a third straight home win in the Championship following victories over Oxford and Coventry.

A 3-2 success over table-topping Coventry highlights Wrexham’s qualities but Charlton are dogged defensively, having conceded just twice in their last four outings, so this is likely to be more low-scoring.

Goals have been in short supply in the majority of Wrexham’s games this season - seven of their last eight Championship clashes have gone under 2.5 goals - and they can edge a cagey encounter in front of their home supporters.
