Tonda Eckert's Southampton have made a fast start to the season after being hit with a four-point deduction.

Despite starting the season with a four-point deduction, Southampton are already well on their way to closing in on the top two in the Championship.

Saints would be joint-top after seven games were it not for the sanction imposed on them for their role in 'Spygate' and their last two matches, a 3-1 win over second-placed Swansea and 4-1 rout of Bristol City, show they mean business.

Wrexham are another club taking aim at the Premier League, but the cash-rich Red Dragons have, for the first time in a number of seasons, found success hard to come by in the opening weeks of the new campaign.

Team news

Striker Nathan Broadhead is unavailable for Wrexham, who will also be missing Max Cleworth, Liberato Cacace, George Thomason and Ollie Rathbone for the visit of Southampton.

Saints midfielder Flynn Downes should feature despite coming off at half-time in the 4-1 win over Bristol City last Saturday.

The stats

Southampton have won four and drawn two of their last six league fixtures and only West Ham (20) have scored more goals than Saints (18) in the Championship.

Saints have won four of their last five league meetings with Wrexham.

Southampton' Canada international striker Cyle Larin has scored a league-high seven goals this term.

Wrexham have won just one of their eight league and cup outings this season and have already been involved in four draws in this season's Championship.

Prediction

Southampton ran out 5-1 victors when they headed to the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham in April and Saints could again exert their quality over the Red Dragons.

Tonda Eckert's side are doing their best to put the fallout from their expulsion from last season's play-offs behind them, although Wrexham's Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac took a swipe at the south-coast club in a social media post this week.

Saints would be joint top had they not been deducted four points and they can continue to climb the table with another comfortable win in north Wales.

Southampton have beaten Swansea 3-1 and Bristol City 4-1 in their last two matches, while they also stuck five past Millwall in August.

All of their four wins this season have come at home, but they may have a golden opportunity to open their account on the road as pressure is mounting on Wrexham and their boss Phil Parkinson.

The ambitious Welsh side were thumped 6-0 at West Ham a week ago and they are down in 19th position after seven games having won just once this term.

Southampton are the Championship's second-highest scorers and possess numerous threats in their ranks.

Canada international Larin has taken most of the plaudits so far, having scored seven league goals, but playmaker Finn Azaz could be Saints' main man on Saturday.

Azaz has scored three goals and provided four assists this season and the 26-year-old netted Southampton's fifth in April's 5-1 win at the Racecourse Ground.

Score prediction: Wrexham 1-3 Southampton
