West Brom have given themselves renewed hope staying in the Championship by climbing out of the relegation zone with wins in their last two league matches but their survival bid could receive another setback when they host Wrexham on Friday.

The Baggies have improved from 23rd to 20th thanks to wins over Hull and Bristol City but now they face a tougher challenge as seventh-placed Wrexham head to the West Midlands.

Albion won the first meeting between the teams this season in August when the Red Dragons were still finding their feet in the Championship after promotion, but the Welsh side have fared much better than their hosts since then.

Team news

West Brom will be without winger Mikey Johnston (ankle) for the rest of the season, while Karlan Grant (hamstring) and Tammer Bany (thigh) are also out.

Defender Chris Mepham (hamstring) is unlikely to be cleared for Friday's game.

Wrexham will be Ben Sheaf (knee), Matty James (toe) and Liberato Cacace (knee) but striker Kieffer Moore has a chance to return from a hamstring injury earlier than was originally anticipated.

Prediction

West Brom have given themselves some breathing space in the Championship relegation battle, ending a 15-match winless run in all competitions with victories in their last two league games.

However, the quality of those wins can be questioned as Hull played with only 10 men for 54 minutes in their 3-0 loss at the Hawthorns, while Bristol City, beaten 1-0 at Ashton Gate before the international break, have taken only one point from their last five games.

A stronger effort will be required from the Baggies against Wrexham, who are seeking a fourth successive promotion and head into their final seven games outside the play-off places only on goal difference.

The Red Dragons have won five of their last seven league games and have triumphed in six of their last eight on the road, including a 2-1 success at Sheffield United in their latest league match.

Phil Parkinson's side have lost only five of their 19 away league games so far and they look up to the challenge of picking up three more points at the Hawthorns.
