  • Preston head into this weekend's fixtures in the play-off places

  • Recommended bet: Double chance - Draw or Preston

Preston will be looking to continue their charge up the Championship table when they make the trip to The Hawthorns to face West Brom on Saturday afternoon.

The Lilywhites are on a five-game unbeaten run heading into this trip to the West Midlands and they will fancy their chances of returning to Lancashire with something to show for their efforts.

West Brom have started to falter over the past month and although they are still right in the mix for promotion, they will be desperate to arrest a slump in form.

Team news

Tammer Bany started for West Brom U21s in Wednesday's draw against Exeter and he could be included in the matchday squad, but Daryl Dike did not feature as expected and is set to miss out again.

Karlan Grant is unlikely to return from his knee injury and Alex Williams' ankle issue could keep him out until the end of October, while Charlie Taylor will need to be assessed after picking up a knock.

Preston are missing the experienced pair of Robbie Brady and Will Keane, who are sidelined with calf and muscular problems.

Pol Valentin, Jordan Thompson, Brad Potts are still in the treatment room, while Milutin Osmajic is suffering from fatigue after playing a prominent role for Montenegro during the international break and will be monitored.

The stats

West Brom have collected just four Championship points since the start of September, only Sheffield United (3) and Norwich (2) have won fewer.

During this same period Preston have won nine points, the fourth-most in the division, to help them surge into the automatic-promotion mix.

The Baggies have not won at home in their last four efforts, going down twice to Derby (in the league and Carabao Cup) and drawing against both Portsmouth and Leicester.

Preston have drawn two, won one and lost one of their four away matches in the league this season.

The Lilywhites have a poor record at the Hawthorns, where they have lost 15 of their last 17 league games.

Prediction

Preston have hit their stride under Paul Heckingbottom this season and his side enter this contest looking to extend their five-game unbeaten streak.

North End have been held to draws in three of those fixtures, sharing the spoils with Middlesbrough, Bristol City and Hull, so there are slight doubts regarding their ability to put teams away.

West Brom's issues have been a lack of cutting edge, as their tally of nine goals scored is one of the worst records in the division, and they were easily beaten 3-0 by Millwall before the international break.

Head coach Ryan Mason has seen the Baggies draw two of their last three home assignments, evidence that they are tough to beat at The Hawthorns but failing to do enough to pick up the wins.

While Preston are in solid form, West Brom are still a tough nut to crack on home soil and the safer play here is to back the visitors to either win or draw.
