  • Charlton have lost just one of their previous five matches

West Brom are in serious danger of suffering relegation to the third tier this season and the Baggies have not played at that level since 1992/93.

Unless results improve and quick, they might find themselves down in League One next season.

Visitors Charlton currently occupy 17th place in the Championship table, although they are seven points away from the drop zone.

With just one defeat from their previous five fixtures, the Addicks are in decent form heading into this clash on Tuesday evening.

Team news

The Baggies will be without a few players for this home clash with the Addicks, with veteran defender Chris Mepham out injured until the start of next month due to a hamstring injury.

Elsewhere, Karlan Grant will not be back until May at the earliest as he is also suffering with a hamstring issue.

Tammer Bany has a thigh injury, but he is expected to be ready to return sooner rather than later.

The visitors will also have three players absent for the match. Matt Godden and Harvey Knibbs are out due to hamstring and ankle issues respectively.

Joshua Edwards will also be unavailable for the match because of an ankle injury.

The stats

Games between these two clubs have been few and far between this century. Indeed, since the start of the 2002/03 season, they have met on just 10 occasions.

West Brom have won just two of those matches, while the Addicks have emerged victorious in five of them.

Earlier this season Charlton sealed a 1-0 win at The Valley and they will be looking to complete the league double over the Baggies for the first time since the 2002/03 campaign.

Both teams have scored 32 goals in the Championship this term, although West Brom have conceded 39 goals compared to the 32 Charlton have let in.

The Addicks have drawn 10 times in the league this season across 33 matches, while the Baggies have drawn seven of their games.

Ten goals have been scored over the previous four matches between the clubs in all competitions.

Prediction

This is a vital match for both teams, although West Brom clearly need the three points more than their opponents.

So far this term the Baggies have claimed just 23 points from their 16 matches at The Hawthorns and this could be the deciding factor come May.

The Londoners have improved of late to give themselves a real chance of retaining their status in the second tier next season.

They will take confidence from their 1-0 win in this fixture at the start of November and this match is likely to be another tight affair, with little or nothing separating the teams on Tuesday evening.
