Southampton welcome Charlton Athletic to St Mary's Stadium on Saturday and will be aiming to make it four wins in a row in the Championship.

The Addicks arrive on the South Coast following a 3-1 home defeat by Portsmouth, but the Londoners had kept three clean sheets before that midweek setback.

Team news

Southampton boss Tonda Eckert has confirmed Mads Roerslev has undergone surgery for an Achilles problem this week and so the defender may not feature again this season.

The Saints hope another defender, Jack Stephens, will be fit to feature, while forward Jay Robinson is a doubt.

The visitors will assess striker Matt Godden who has a hamstring issue, while the versatile Harvey Knibbs remains sidelined with an ankle injury.

The stats

Southampton have taken 13 points from a possible 15, winning four and drawing one of their last five league matches.

The Addicks have recorded four clean sheets across their last seven Championship matches.

Saints recorded their biggest winning margin against the Charlton earlier this season, recording a 5-1 victory at The Valley back in November.

Before this season Southampton and Charlton had not met in the league since April 2011 when the Saints earned a 2-0 victory in League One.

Prediction

Southampton are enjoying a fine run of form with four wins in five Championship matches and are now just two points off the play-off places.

Saints experienced a rough December and start to the new year, but have now turned a corner and will also take confidence from getting the job done against Leicester City in the FA Cup fourth round last time out.

Charlton visit St Mary's on the back of mixed results, earning seven points built on three clean sheets before Tuesday's 3-1 home defeat by fellow strugglers Pompey.

After a strong start back in the Championship, Nathan Jones' side have fallen to 18th in the table and must arrest the slide if they are to avoid a relegation battle as the business end of the season approaches.

Southampton are favourites for another win and should have enough momentum to take the three points with the backing of their own fans, who are enjoying the feel-good factor that has returned to the club this month.

The Addicks, meanwhile, are a team who have won just one away game since October and a victory on the South Coast would be a surprise.

Backing under 2.5 goals could also to be prove a clever decision.

Four of Saints' last five matches have featured two or less goals, while three Charlton matches since the end of January have also seen two goals or fewer.
