All involved with Sheffield Wednesday will be delighted that a miserable season is finally drawing to a close and the feeling will be similar among those connected to their final-day opponents, West Brom.

Poor ownership means Wednesday were deducted 18 points throughout the season and having won only one and drawn 12 of their 45 games, there is every chance they end with a negative points tally.

West Brom were also deducted two points but a sensational end to the season under James Morrison ensured that did not prove detrimental and having secured survival, they should finish with a flourish at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Team news

Sheffield Wednesday must assess Gabriel Otegbayo while George Brown, Di’Shon Bernard, Ernie Weaver, Yisa Alao and Liam Cooper are certain absentees.

Jed Wallace is a doubt for West Brom, who will be without Krystian Bielik and Mikey Johnston on the final day.

Prediction

Morrison’s ability to coach a competent defence has been key to West Brom’s improved form and while a sixth straight clean sheet would delight the former Scotland international, he may let his side be a touch less regimented now their survival is confirmed.

The Baggies certainly have the firepower to cut loose, as they showed when routing Watford 3-0 before their draw with Ipswich, and a clash with a side who have conceded 88 goals in 45 Championship matches should provide their strikers a great opportunity to fill their boots.

Final days can often lead to goal-filled games and West Brom know that better than most, having won their last two concluding matches 3-0 and 5-3, so don’t rule out a frantic affair in Sheffield.

Daryl Dike is one of those West Brom strikers hoping to finish a tricky campaign on a high and having scored two goals in his last three games, he may do just that.

The American forward looks set to miss out on the USA’s squad for this summer’s World Cup but he can prove he is getting back to his best after an injury-laden run by netting at Hillsborough.
