QPR have won three of their last four Championship matches to move into contention for a play-off place ahead of a visit from Birmingham on Tuesday evening.

The Blues have adjusted to life in the second tier nicely and are also close to a top-six spot after losing just two of their last seven league games.

Team news

QPR are admittedly hampered by several injuries, but Julien Stephan still has plenty of available players to choose from.

The R’s are still without highly rated youngster Harvey Vale, while fellow playmaker Ilias Chair faces a late fitness test.

Sam Field remains sidelined after being forced off at half-time during QPR’s 3-1 defeat to Norwich City at the end of last month, although experienced goalkeeper Ben Hamer could be involved.

Rayan Kolli's injury-ravaged start to the season continues, as the Algerian comes to terms with a fresh muscle problem.

After tearing his anterior cruciate ligament during a routine training session, French full-back Ziyad Larkeche is likely to be out for the remainder of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Blues boss Chris Davies is sweating over the fitness of Alex Cochrane, after the full-back picked up a knock at Southampton.

Lee Buchanan and Scott Wright are both hopeful of returning at the beginning of next year as they continue to recover from their respective long-term knee issues.

The stats

After recording two consecutive home losses throughout a tricky Autumn period, QPR have won each of their last two fixtures at Loftus Road, netting three times on both occasions.

The R's have gained 14 points on the road this season – the same number they have earned at their West London home.

Only three clubs currently have a worse away record than Birmingham – rock-bottom Sheff Wed, relegation-threatened Portsmouth and potential play-off rivals Watford.

Both teams have scored in each of the West Midlanders' last five Championship outings.

Prediction

Only goal difference separates these two sides in the Championship table, with both enjoying sporadic spells of good form throughout the season's opening exchanges.

Stephan will be hoping his team's recent run of three wins in four matches will not turn out to be another false dawn, after QPR produced a similar sequence of results in September.

The R's poor defensive record has prevented them from mounting an unlikely promotion bid thus far, having conceded more goals than 20 other sides in the division despite currently occupying tenth place.

City are also enjoying a decent period, with Saturday's defeat on the South Coast being just their second loss since going down 2-1 to title-chasing Middlesbrough at the Riverside.

If they themselves are to have any serious designs on promotion, Davies' men must start to accrue more points away from St. Andrew's.
