Preston are on a dismal run of form and manager Paul Heckingbottom is coming under increasing pressure.
North End have lost four straight games, losing 1-0 at Charlton most recently to make it successive games in which they failed to score.
Bristol City made a slow start, losing 1-0 to Walsall in the Carabao Cup before suffering a 2-0 defeat to Millwall in their Championship opener, both at Ashton Gate.
However, they have since turned things around, earning a 2-2 draw away at Birmingham before beating Portsmouth 2-1 on Saturday to climb up to 12th.
The Robins will head to Deepdale full of confidence and can heap more misery on struggling Preston.
North End have not kept a clean sheet since February and Bristol City are among the goals having scored four in two.
While a tightly-contested match is expected as the hosts battle to put points on the board, neither side has been able to keep a clean sheet this season and with the Robins having found their scoring touch, at least two goals look likely.
