  • Preston have lost their previous two games in all competitions

  • Hull currently sit fifth in the Championship table

  • Recommended bet: Hull to win

Preston have dipped somewhat of late, winning just two of their last seven matches across all competitions.

A 1-0 loss to Derby last time out in the Championship came just a week after the club suffered an early exit from the FA Cup, as League One Wigan scored with 15 minutes remaining at Deepdale to seal a place in the next round.

Hull have been on the ascendancy recently. Not only are the Tigers sitting in fifth place in the table, but they have also progressed in the FA Cup, beating Blackburn on penalties.

A home clash against Chelsea awaits next month, but first is the small latter of keeping a promotion push on track.

Team news

The hosts will be without Robbie Brady for the clash against Hull as he recovers from a calf problem.

Elsewhere, Lewis Gibson and Andrija Vukcevic are also sidelined as manager Paul Heckingbottom is going through a defensive crisis at the moment.

Hull will be missing quite a few players for this match, as Ryan Giles, Brandon Williams and Nathan Tisdale will not be back until the end of the month.

Longer-term absentees include Darko Gyabi, Enis Destan, Cody Drameh, Joe Gelhardt and Eliot Matazo, who are all out for the next few weeks at the very least.

The stats

Since 2010, these two clubs have met on 20 occasions in all competitions and Preston have claimed victory seven times, while Hull have won eight matches.

The recent head-to-head favours the Tigers, however, who have lost just once to their opponents in the previous five matchups between the two sides.

Last time out, a 2-2 draw was played out in what was an entertaining match at the MKM Stadium last September.

Hull have scored 42 times in the second tier this season, the third best attacking record in the division. They have conceded 39 goals though, with only four clubs conceding more often.

Preston have a far better defensive record, conceding just 26 times, with only Ipswich and Stoke conceding fewer goals this term.

Going forward, the club have scored six fewer goals than Hull and have scored just twice in their previous three matches.

Prediction

With the two clubs sitting next to each other in the league table, it is Hull who have been in better form of late.

A win for them on Tuesday evening could see the club move up to fourth, if Millwall lose their game.

Surely this is enough incentive for Sergej Jakirovic's men to seal a vital away victory and at least begin to consolidate a play-off place.

The Lilywhites may have home advantage, yet they will be looking to avoid a third consecutive loss at Deepdale.

As such, expect the away side to come out guns blazing to seal all three points.
