Relegation-threatened Oxford could claim a huge victory on Tuesday
  • Oxford are unbeaten in their last five home fixtures

  • Wrexham have lost two of their last three matches

  • Recommended bet: Oxford to win

There are some big games in the Championship this week but arguably none of them have greater significance than Oxford's clash with Wrexham at the Kassam Stadium.

The three points at stake are massively important for both teams with Oxford striving to revive their survival hopes and Wrexham aiming to stay in play-off contention.

Oxford find themselves five points inside the relegation zone although they have played one game less than fourth-bottom Blackburn, who face a tough midweek trip to Sheffield United.

But the Yellows cannot expect an easy ride from Wrexham, who remain in contention for a fourth successive promotion.

Wrexham had a successful weekend, winning 2-0 at home to Stoke, but they are two points below sixth-placed Hull with three games remaining.

Team news

Matt Bloomfield could ponder a few changes after his team paid the price for a slow start in Saturday's 1-0 loss at Derby.

Attacking midfielder Jeon Jin-Woo and Aidomo Emakhu were lively off the bench at Pride Park and could be considered for starting berths but Jack Currie, Greg Leigh (both muscle strains), Brian De Keersmaecker (shoulder), Tyler Goodrham (ankle) and Przemyslaw Placheta (hamstring) are ruled out.

Wrexham continue to be short of options in the holding midfield area with Ben Sheaf (knock) and Zak Vyner (groin) occupying berths in the treatment room.

Left back Liberato Cacace (knee) has not featured since early February but there are plenty of options in attack with Kieffer Moore, Davis Keillor-Dunn and Nathan Broadhead among the options available to come into the side.

The stats

Oxford have conceded less than two goals in seven of their last nine games.

The Yellows have started the scoring in four of their last five home matches.

Both teams have scored in six of Wrexham's last nine away fixtures.

Four of Wrexham's last eight away games have featured at least four goals.

Wrexham have conceded at least two goals in six of their last nine games.

Prediction

Oxford have gathered 11 points from their last five home matches and they can give their regulars another fantastic experience by defeating Wrexham on a massive night for both clubs.

Staying in the Championship is an ongoing challenge for Oxford, who cannot match the spending power of the majority of their second-tier rivals.

But the Yellows are fighting hard and they excelled in their last home game when winning 2-0 against mid-table Watford.

Oxford will expect a tougher challenge from Wrexham, who are desperate to stay in the promotion conversation.

But they were victorious at home to Ipswich (2-1) and Southampton (2-1) earlier in the campaign and may be ready to stun another of the high-flying teams.
