  • Oxford's last two matches have each produced just one goal

  • Sheffield Wednesday have failed to score in their last three away games

  • Recommended Bet: Oxford 1-0 correct score @ 19/4

Oxford may already know their fate by the time they kick off against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday as a draw or a win by Charlton in their 12.30pm kick-off against Hull would end the U's chances of escaping the bottom three.

A defeat for the Addicks, however, would keep alive Oxford's hopes of overhauling them if they can win their last two games against the Owls and Millwall.

The home side have shown a fair amount of fight in recent weeks with draws against Hull and Portsmouth and a win over Watford, but defeats to Derby and Wrexham in their last two games have pushed them to the brink of relegation.

Wednesday have known they will be playing in League One next season for a long time and they need to find three points from their final two games to even get back to zero for the season after being handed an 18-point deduction.

Team news

Oxford are still missing Greg Leigh, Tyler Goodrham, Przemyslaw Placheta and Brian De Keersmaecker due to injuries. Will Vaulks is in contention for a starting spot in midfield.

Sheffield Wednesday are set to continue to be without Svante Ingelsson, Liam Cooper, George Brown, Joel Ndala, Ike Ugbo and Di'Shon Bernard. Jamal Lowe and Nathaniel Chalobah are options to come into the starting line-up, while goalkeeper Pierce Charles could return in place of Murphy Cooper.

Prediction

This game could be played in a sombre atmosphere if Oxford learn they have also been relegated before kick-off, but the home side should still be capable of grinding out a narrow victory.

While Sheffield Wednesday have had a historically bad campaign, they have kept battling and managed to pick up draws in three successive matches against Leicester, Coventry and Charlton recently before losing their latest game 1-0 at Middlesbrough.

With Oxford being a very short price to win, it makes sense to target a better return by backing a 1-0 victory for the home side.

Oxford have been scrapping hard in their recent matches, losing 1-0 to Derby and Wrexham, and they can come out on top by the same score this time. Only one of Oxford's last eight games has produced more than two goals.

The Owls have suffered nine away defeats without scoring this season, including Wednesday's respectable 1-0 loss to fifth-placed Middlesbrough and another narrow reverse is likely in their final away match of a tough season.
